Westerville Parent Council and Roush Honda of Westerville have announced the recipients of the 2025-26 Great Educator Mentor (GEM) Award, which is presented to individuals who go the extra mile to make a positive impact in the classroom and schools.

Westerville North High School science teacher Virginia Tompkins has been named High School Teacher of the Year, Genoa Middle School social studies teacher Leslie Thompson received the Middle School Teacher of the Year and Alcott Elementary fourth grade teacher Laura Kerns earned the Elementary Teacher of the Year honor by the Westerville VFW Post 7883.

The Ellis E. Woodrow Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7883 recognized the winners of the 2025-26 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay contests — both of which are VFW’s annual essay contests.
